Al Campos & SoulHarmonic is a 5-piece band from the USA, Denmark & Sweden. Bandleader Al Campos — originally from Los Angeles — has lived in Copenhagen since 1990 and formed the band in 2003.
The band plays original compositions in the soul genre mixed with funk & jazz, as well as classic covers by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Al Green, Kool & The Gang and Marvin Gaye.
What makes SoulHarmonic unique is the collision of Al’s deep American soul roots with the cool, precise Scandinavian musical sensibility of his bandmates — creating something funky, fresh, and entirely their own.
One of the top bands in Scandinavia performing in the genre of Soul & Funk — with deep roots, original music, and a live energy you have to experience.
Al’s first call was to bass player and old friend Thomas Risell, followed by the Finding brothers — guitarist Martin Finding and drummer Michael Finding.
One day, while walking down the pedestrian street in Copenhagen, Al heard a very funky street musician playing guitar — Bob Porter. Al hired him on the spot.
After a couple of keyboard players, the band finally found their man — the very funky Swedish player Daniel Fridell, who has been with the band since 2003.
In the beginning, the band played classic soul covers — Bill Withers, Al Green, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye. But Al couldn’t stop at covers. He began writing original songs. The rest is history.
Al Campos & SoulHarmonic have released a soulful, funky and energetic collection of original compositions — giving their fans the very best soul & funk music to come out of this region of the world, precisely Copenhagen, Denmark.
Since 2008, Al Campos & SoulHarmonic have taken their music to East Africa on three separate tours — bringing soul, funk and groove to audiences in some of the most vibrant cities on the continent.
In 2006, Al contacted Willie Mitchell — legendary producer of Al Green at Hi Records — to ask if he would mix the band’s debut album. After hearing two tracks, Willie agreed to mix the entire record.
“The torch has been passed to you. You may be an unknown artist to the world now but your music has deep roots in soul music. You are the one to carry this music forward.”
The album Willie mixed was Old School Lovin’ — released by positiveSOUL Productions. Re-released in Japan by Grey Dog’s Records in 2009.
